About the International Chamber Music Summer School
The Summer School
ICMSS gives you the opportunity to play a wide range of chamber music in both tutored and informal sessions. You will work on up to six different works in varying ensembles with professional tutors though the week so you can study the pieces in depth.
We provide rooms and music to enable you to play informally in your free time, to explore a wider repertoire. We have a large library of sheet music, covering well-known favourites and many rarer works.

Music
The Summer School is designed for musicians of a reasonably high standard: amateur players whose standard enables them to perform publicly; students; young professional performers and teachers wanting chamber music experience. We have a balance of strings, woodwind, horn, and piano. The minimum age is 18.
Everyone works on four to six pieces in groups from trios to larger scale chamber works, and you are coached by tutors for about four hours on each work. We send out the list of works for study well in advance to enable you to get to know your pieces. Some sight-reading will be inevitable, particularly if you want to make the most of the opportunities to play informally.
At the end of the week we have an informal play-through of some of the pieces we’ve been working on.
Practicalities
We pride ourselves on having a welcoming and friendly atmosphere. With about fifty participants we are small enough to get to know everyone, but large enough to offer a wide variety of music-making through the week.
The fee of £830 includes accommodation, meals and refreshments during the day. You will stay in one of the school’s study bedrooms, all of which have a washbasin, with shared bathroom facilities. Some rooms have an ensuite shower room, for a supplement of £65.
The course runs during the school holidays, and you may be able to use some of the school sporting facilities and grounds.
